Heroes of Homeschooling

Congratulations, you have a homeschool graduate!

Not counting all the work you and your student put into that milestone, have you ever considered what makes that accomplishment possible?

You are not the first home educator to graduate a student.  Not by a long shot.  Countless others have gone before you to pave the way.

There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of voices on the internet giving homeschooling advice, but the real heroes of homeschooling are
the ones who forged the path, doing much of the hard work for us:

-those who were homeschooling before it was 'legal' or common

-those who started homeschool bookfairs and conventions

- those who encouraged and mentored new homeschoolers

- those who started and led co-op classes and groups

-those who helped get homeschooling legalized

Who is your homeschool hero?

Even though I have been homeschooling for 25 years, I am grateful for those in my community who helped me when I first started.

I know many families who were homeschooling before I started.  Some are still homeschooling, some have graduated all their students and moved onto new ventures, but all are my heroes.

We do not homeschool in a vacuum.  Others have paved the way- mentoring, encouraging, and breaking new ground.

Every community probably has at least one homeschool hero.  Who is yours?

I bow (figuratively speaking) before your friend Toni in Virginia! Graduating 12 students is amazing. Definitely a homeschool hero!
