Brown Sugar and Spice Cookies

creative cookie exchange

Creative Cookie Exchange

I usually post on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday,
with my food posts being Friday.
However, I found this Creative Cookie Exchange

Blog Hop  that I wanted to participate in.

So, today is a bonus post with a delicious recipe.

This will be great for after school snacks or lunchboxes.

For the homeschoolers, this is a great any time snack.

I don't know about ya'll, but I often

catch my kids (hubby, too) eating brown sugar

 straight out of the container.

Usually this is while they are making cookies

or oatmeal or something, but they are sticking

their fingers in there and eating brown sugar straight up.

So a brown sugar cookie is a big hit around here.

I add a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg to make it even better.

Quick to make and easily doubled,

this recipe also freezes well.  Just roll

the dough in a log, wrap and freeze.

BROWN SUGAR AND SPICE COOKIES

preheat oven to 375 degrees

 1/2 cup butter, softened

3/4 brown sugar, packed

1 egg

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1 2/3 cups flour

3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

Cream butter and brown sugar; beat in egg and vanilla.

Mix dry ingredients together and mix into butter/sugar mixture.

Drop by tablespoons size balls on parchment paper lined

cookie sheet.  Dip glass in granulated sugar

and flatten each cookie.

Bake 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.

Makes 2 1/2 dozen

So glad you baked outside of your normal schedule and joined us, Karen! This month was the first post but the plan is to bake cookies once a month, on the first Tuesday after the 15th of the month. If you'd like to formally join the group to see the theme ahead of time, we have a Facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/569013336490518/ It's a friendly group of bakers.

Those brown sugar cookies look and sound wonderful! With the cinnamon and nutmeg, I'll bet the kitchen smelled great while they baked.
