I Got Nothing

working through the blahs

I got nothing.  Nothing to give.

Do you ever have days like that?

Everybody needs something from you, but you have nothing.  Nothing to give.

Your kids need your attention.
If you are a homeschool mom, your kids need your attention even more.
Your husband needs your attention.
Your house needs your attention.
Other things need your attention.

And you got nothing.  A big, fat nothing.

What do you do on those days?

Those days when it feels like your brain has gone on vacation.
Your energy has gone on vacation.
Your motivation has gone on vacation.

Those are the days you declare a vacation.

You don’t have to go anywhere or do anything.

Let it be one of the rare days that you let the kids watch every video of Little House on the Prairie.
Let them read for as long as they wish.
Let them play games.
Let them build a blanket fort.
Let them make their own lunch.  It’s ok if they eat cereal or crackers or cookies.

Ask your husband to order pizza for dinner.
Or have cold cereal for dinner.
Or sandwiches.

While this is going on, you can recharge.
Read a book.
Pray.
Nap.
Take a walk.
Sit in the sunshine.
Chat with a friend.

Some days, I got nothing.
Do you have those days, too?

** I realize that “I got nothing” is incorrect grammar.

Sometimes, just sometimes, it's okay to dispense with good grammar to make a point. Besides, if you still have the wherewithal to remember to declare, "I have nothing," then you have made yourself out to be a liar, because you still have the wherewithal. I'm pretty sure that's in the Bible somewhere.

Thanks, Laura. Because of the subject of my blog (I teach my children) I feel compelled to make the disclaimer so people don't judge my 'qualifications'. I know I shouldn't care, but a part of me does.

I know those days, that sometimes stretch out to a week (or more). As far as judging your qualifications, I know that sometimes it is because we do care we try so hard, but truly Karen - You Got This (bad grammar too) so don't be too hard on yourself because your "I've got nothing" is so much more than what you think it is. Recharge yourself, take a breather, I know for me that after a mental rest I'm always better than before it.

Aww...thanks, Kathryn. I assumed there would be others who could relate to that feeling. And, yep, sometimes it does last more than a day, but we pull through.
