I also leave EARLY and pack breakfast and lunch to eat at rest stops along the way, it helps the kids be better travelers when they can get out and run for a while. We always stop some place for dinner though, which is one of the treats of traveling!9peasMomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10275852974567457188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5055052933653600483.post-9063702174374122832013-09-10T22:15:19.763-05:002013-09-10T22:15:19.763-05:00Thanks for stopping by, Linda. I don't have a smart phone, but definitely take the gps with us. It was a lifesaver when we went to San Francisco this past spring.
Love your Times Square story! We avoid the big cities as much as possible, but will go in for a day trip- my grown kids like the city and there are some interesting museums and stuff there.
We have never been to New York State, but I would probably scope out the Adirondack Mountains. Would have to do some research to see what I would not want to miss. I bet there are some great state parks in New York and on the way there. Can I tag along with you? :-) We did go to Pennsylvania when Nate was a baby. Daniel Boone 'country' (TN) has a fun state park and fort that our kids liked.
karentrinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14902670517507563124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5055052933653600483.post-12863098721330555782013-08-09T23:46:32.035-05:002013-08-09T23:46:32.035-05:00Hi Karen,Courtney B. here...love this post. We vac...Hi Karen,Courtney B. here...love this post. We vacation a lot like this but haven't heard of the VRBO thing (although I knew this kind of a thing existed).I will have to keep this in mind for future uses...we also tend to vacation during the fall or even the winter.

Road tripping (and camping) is definitely the way we prefer to do it and can't wait for the days when we can RV it and have more freedom.

No matter how much I avoid too much technology I love having a smart phone to quickly make online reservations at a discounted price or use the gps to just get us there.

Driving in late at night to New Jersey on our ten year anniversary trip (where we intended to stay and take a bus each day to NYC) we decided on the spur of the moment to navigate our way to Time Square. Once there it was both exhilarating and frightening. We quickly looked at the lights and skedaddled back over the state line. We felt so out of place but it is now a favorite memory of mine.

Got to go do more vacation planning now...where would you not miss were you to take your whole family to NY state?Courtneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12047552798671013377noreply@blogger.com
